The steenbok is a common small antelope of southern and eastern Africa. It is sometimes known as the steinbuck or steinbok and is not named after the Chenin blanc grapes that is called Steen by some producers.
The steenbok stands 45 - 60cm high and are solitary animals, except for when a pair come together to mate. It has been suggested that once a pair have mated they will stay together as a pair, though living independently and staying in contact by scent and markings.
